Preston North End’s worst fears could soon be realised with Middlesbrough now looking to sign loanee Daniel Iversen.
The Sun report that Boro have Iversen on their wish list as they chase a new goalkeeper at the end of the season.
Chris Wilder – if he stays as Boro boss amid interest from Burnley – seemingly wants to bring in a new stopper.
Newcastle United man Karl Darlow is one target for Wilder, and he may be open to making the short move from Tyneside to Teesside.
Yet Boro’s other main goalkeeping target is Iversen after his impressive performances on loan at Preston.
Iversen joined Preston on loan from Leicester City in January 2021 following a knee injury to Declan Rudd.
Iversen immediately excelled in the Preston goal and renewed his loan spell at the end of the season, signing up for the full 2021-22 campaign.
The Dane has been even better this season, producing ridiculous save after ridiculous save.
Other loan goalkeepers have starred at Preston in the past; Jordan Pickford and Sam Johnstone spring to mind but Iversen may eclipse them in a North End shirt.
Iversen is almost nailed-on to become Preston’s Player of the Year and fans are desperate for him to stay put at Deepdale for a little longer.

Another loan seems unlikely though and Preston surely can’t afford to pay up and sign Iversen on a permanent basis.
Bigger Championship clubs will be chasing that kind of deal and Middlesbrough could be the club to swoop in and kill off Preston’s hopes.
North End certainly can’t compete with the money on offer from toro, both in terms of a transfer fee and the wages.
Let’s just hope that Boro focus their attentions on Darlow over Iversen, potentially giving Preston some glimmer of hope over a deal for the Leicester man.
