Preston North End fans love Emil Riis, but we’re all well aware of the improvements he still needs to make at Deepdale.

The Dane has been in superb form this season, smashing seven goals in 12 games across all competitions.

The 23-year-old has so much potential. He has blazing speed and shows the promise to be a regular goalscorer with a little more composure at times.

Fans are confident it will all come together for Riis, and there is no doubting that he is one of the most exciting players at the club.

There are still some parts of his game that need work though, which will hopefully come with time.

Ledson barks at Riis

We’ve seen PNE players show some frustration with Riis before.

Patrick Bauer and Andrew Hughes were far from happy with him during the win over Peterborough United last month.

That was about a lack of game awareness and defensive positioning, and it was a similar kind of thing against Birmingham City on Saturday.

The Blues had a first-half corner that was flicked away towards the touchline.

Riis went chasing after the ball, but instead of knocking it up the line and clearing the danger, he either tried to cut back past his man or win a throw-in.

The ball merely came to Dion Sanderson, whose cross was headed onto the post by Troy Deeney.

North End’s highlights of the game show Ryan Ledson shouting at Riis telling him to get rid of the ball.

PNE players love Riis too, but team leaders like Bauer, Ledson and Hughes will always step up to bark orders, no matter who the player may be.

These moments of defensive awareness will hopefully come for Riis, who has everything in his locker to become a quality striker.
