Ryan Lowe wants January signings after watching his Preston North End side lose 4-2 away at bitter rivals Blackpool today.
North End went up the M55 to take on Blackpool with fans looking for PNE to right last season’s wrongs.
A 2-0 defeat at Bloomfield Road last season left PNE supporters hoping for better this time around.
It was another two-goal defeat though, started off by Jerry Yates putting Blackpool in front.
Ben Whiteman pulled North End level from the penalty spot but a superb Charlie Patino strike had Blackpool back ahead.
Yates nodded in number three and whilst Callum Connolly’s own goal gave PNE hope, CJ Hamilton scored into an empty net with Freddie Woodman forward chasing a leveller.
North End fans are fuming and who can blame them?
PNE have once again come up short in the biggest away game of the season and it’s not even all that surprising.
The defeat puts pressure back on manager Lowe, even if most fans can accept that it’s not all his fault.
The problems are North End go far beyond Lowe and whilst you can criticise his tactics and substitutions, today wasn’t solely his fault.
It’s pretty clear that this squad just isn’t good enough for where Lowe wants to go and a mixed summer window is now showing.
Lowe was desperate for a right wing back and a striker but had to put on a brave face in the final month of the window as he had to make do with the player at his disposal.
An injury to Troy Parrott leaves North End very short in attack and Lowe is already looking towards January.
Lowe has told Lancs Live that he is already looking towards January in the hope that he can help the PNE squad.
Lowe noted that players are having to fill in up front but he wants a 20-goal-a-season striker – something that is usually beyond North End’s budget.
Will this current ownership commit to funding January signings? North End fans are sceptical and after Lowe had to make out that he was happy with his squad, he may now realise that the shortcomings are putting his job at risk.
