Frankie McAvoy comments on Preston's Scott Sinclair after Derby cameo

Preston North End boss Frankie McAvoy has suggested that he needs to see more hard work from Scott Sinclair after a bright cameo against Derby County.

North End could only record a 0-0 draw with the Rams, turning in another disappointing performance.

With just three shots on target in the last three home games, Preston are desperate for an injection of attacking quality.

McAvoy was at least able to call upon Scott Sinclair as a substitute against Derby.

The former Celtic hero has been struggling after COVID-19 symptoms, but made his return against the Rams.

Sinclair came on as a second half substitute and made an impact, showing that he could help North End find more goals.

The 32-year-old maybe hasn’t quite lived up to expectations at Preston, but now has a real chance to step up.

After the game, McAvoy told Lancs Live that Sinclair needs to show more positive work rate, if he is to be brutally honest.

McAvoy seemingly feels that Sinclair needs to work harder off the ball to go along with his dangerous play around the goal, suggesting he could be picked more soon if he adds that to his game.

“You are hoping (he can provide the clinical edge),” said McAvoy. “He got one chance from a corner, or a long-throw, where he spins in the box to hit it and the goalkeeper saves. He is always a threat in and around the box but that work rate he showed, I think he needs to do more of that if I am brutally honest with you.”

“He knows that and he has got it in him; if we can get him doing that then he will play in the team,” he added.
