Steve Thompson is back in football with the former Preston North End coach becoming Oldham Athletic new Head of Recruitment.
PNE fans will remember Thompson from the Simon Grayson era.
Thompson worked with Grayson at Blackpool and it was no surprise when they reunited at Deepdale in 2015.
Thompson had left Leeds United and PNE were happy to swoop in for him after winning promotion to the Championship.
Even when Grayson left for Sunderland in 2017, Thompson stayed put and worked alongside new boss Alex Neil instead.
Changes came earlier this year though as Thompson’s PNE departure was announced just about a month after Ryan Lowe’s arrival.
Thompson has been out of the game for more than ten months now but has finally made his return.
Oldham Athletic have confirmed that Thompson has joined them as their new Head of Recruitment.
Oldham have created this role specifically for Thompson and after many years on the training pitch, the 58-year-old will now focus on finding talent instead.
Thompson will work closely with Oldham boss and former PNE coach David Unsworth moving forward; the pair never crossed paths at Deepdale though.

This is quite the emotional move for Thompson.
Born around the Oldham area, Thompson’s father and grandfather both played for the Latics.
Thompson will now head up Oldham’s transfer business moving forward and continue a family trend in the process.
Now playing in non-league and stuck way down in 19th place in the Vanarama National League, Oldham need a jolt from somewhere to get themselves moving up again.
The hope is that Thompson can provide this and who knows – maybe he will give North End a call in an attempt to take some young players on loan to Boundary Park.
