Preston take on Coventry City in the Championship tonight, meaning striker Viktor Gyokeres could feature after snubbing North End last year.
Frankie McAvoy needs a win after seven league games without victory.
Preston have only lost once in that time, but draws just aren’t good enough.
Tonight’s game against an impressive Coventry side is far from ideal, especially if Gyokeres is fit.
The Swede picked up an ankle injury against Blackburn Rovers at the weekend, meaning his participation tonight is in question.
Gyokeres has ben on fire this term. With nine goals and two assists in 12 games, the 23-year-old has been sensational for the Sky Blues.
In the last international break, Gyokeres was called up by Sweden to replace Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Coventry appear to have a real star on their hands, and he could have been a Preston player.
Wales Online reported that Gyokeres picked a move to Swansea City last year over joining Preston, Cardiff City or Queens Park Rangers.
North End seemingly made a move to sign Gyokeres on loan, but he picked Swansea instead – as many have in recent years.
That loan spell didn’t go well as he was recalled in January and loaned out to Coventry, where he then signed permanently.
It would have been nice to see Gyokeres and Emil Riis up top together, but that is now something of a pipe dream.
Gyokeres has a chance to show Preston what they’re missing, and he will be a goal threat at all times if fit to play.
