Former Blackburn target Patrick Bauer now fit to play for Preston this weekend

Preston North End travel to take on Blackburn Rovers this weekend and will have defender Patrick Bauer available for selection.

Frankie McAvoy takes his side to Ewood Park in a huge game for all at Preston.

After losing 2-0 to Blackpool in October, Preston can’t afford another derby day disaster.

With four points from the last two games, McAvoy has helped ease some of the pressure on his job.

It will pile right back on if Preston lose this weekend though, and McAvoy has been given a huge boost.

Speaking to Lancs Live ahead of this weekend’s game, McAvoy has confirmed that Patrick Bauer is available.

McAvoy noted that Bauer failed a fitness test to face Fulham last weekend but has been training this week and there are no concerns.

This does leave McAvoy with a dilemma.

Preston look better defensively when Bauer is on the pitch but Liam Lindsay played well against Fulham in his place.

Does Lindsay keep his place or does Bauer come back in? We would edge towards the latter, with Bauer potentially in line to face the club he snubbed.

Blackburn were desperate to sign Bauer from Charlton Athletic, failing with bids in 2018. We understand Blackburn also offered him a contract in 2019, when he signed for Preston instead.

Tony Mowbray admitted to the Lancashire Telegraph that he wanted Bauer for ‘a long time’ but it just wasn’t to be.

Bauer has a chance to show Blackburn what they’re missing this week, and will be keen to play after proving his fitness.
