Preston are once again being linked with Sheffield United midfielder Regan Slater ahead of the January transfer window.
The Hull Daily Mail claim that Preston are rivalling Hull for the signing of Slater with Rotherham United also keen.
It’s claimed that Preston made a move for Slater over the summer but failed to make a deal happen.
Hull are now back in the hunt for Slater having seen him impress on loan at the KCOM Stadium last season.
Whilst the Tigers are currently unable to pay a fee for Slater, they are expected to be taken over by Turkish businessman Acun Ilicali.
Ilicali will bring major funds to Hull, which would likely make them immediate favourites to sign Slater.
The 22-year-old hasn’t played a single game for Sheffield United this season and seemingly needs to move on to further his career.
Does a move to Preston actually make sense for Slater?
In the summer, a move for Slater did make some sense. Adding a new face in midfield was needed, but Preston then signed Ali McCann.

In Ryan Lowe’s first game as Preston boss, McCann couldn’t even start as a midfielder. Ben Whiteman played a holding role, whilst Daniel Johnson and Alan Browne had more freedom to go forward.
McCann had to play in a wing back role, so why add another midfielder?
Ryan Ledson and Brad Potts are in the mix too, meaning a midfield addition in January just doesn’t make sense for Preston – even if they do like Slater.
