Preston North End have revealed their squad numbers for the 2021/22 season.
Not as much significance is placed on certain numbers these days, but it gives the children a chance to get their favourite player and number on the back of their shirt now they have been confirmed.
Ben Whiteman takes the number 4 shirt from the departed Ben Pearson, whilst Ched Evans is the new number 9 which has previously held by Louis Moult. A lot of the youth players who have featured in pre-season have been given a squad number including Noah Mawene.
One of those has been given the number 17 which stands out as we donβt usually see a youth player given such a low number. Lewis Leigh will adorn that shirt this season. Of course you canβt read too much into it, but Frankie McAvoy has been impressed with him in pre-season and he may get a chance at some point.
12 and 13 are the lowest numbers left unallocated and may be taken by some new signings before the end of the transfer window. A few of the players listed may move on as well so there could be a few changes before the end of August.
