Preston have confirmed the appointment of new boss Ryan Lowe today – and he has previously spoken very highly of striker Emil Riis.

North End fans largely feel that Frankie McAvoy didn’t get much right before his sacking on Monday.

McAvoy did though get the best out of Emil Riis, putting him in a position to excel.

Riis managed just three goals in all competitions last season, struggling to fully adapt to English football.

Yet with 12 goals in 25 games this season, Riis has been a revelation under McAvoy.

Riis even secured a first Denmark call-up last month and the sky seems to be the limit for him.

Fans will have hoped that the new manager would help Riis thrive too – and Lowe could do that.

Lowe has helped the likes of Nicky Maynard and Luke Jephcott score regularly in recent times and was a striker himself.

Lowe walks into Deepdale with a quality striker put right into his lap in Riis – and he actually praised the Dane last season.

The then-Plymouth boss told EFL on Quest that he loved Preston’s style under Alex Neil and suggested that Riis is a unique threat.

Those comments came after Riis scored in a 3-0 win over Reading, with Lowe praising Riis for his runs off the ball and for bouncing back after leaving Derby County.

“It’s unbelievable to see the way Preston are playing, and the style they’re playing. Yet, they can’t win at home, but can take points on the road like they did tonight.”

“There’s not many like him [Emil Riis Jakobsen] now; he’s always on the shoulder, knows where the ball is going to go. Fair play to the boy; he was rejected at Derby County, and tonight grabbed his first and second league goal of the Championship season,” he added.
