Sepp van den Berg and Cameron Archer excelled at Preston and have now taken that form onto the international stage as both players scored tonight.

Van den Berg was in action for the Netherlands Under-21’s as they traveled to take on Gibraltar on Tuesday night.

The Netherlands unsurprisingly ran out 6-0 winners with Van den Berg scoring the third goal.

Van den Berg played as the right-sided centre back in a four-man defence for the Netherlands, partnering Jan Paul van Hecke – a recent Blackburn Rovers loanee – at centre back.

Having made his Under-21 debut back in October, Van den Berg now has his first goal for his country.

A little closer to home, striker Archer featured for England’s Under-21’s against Albania in Chesterfield.

Archer came off the bench to score England’s third goal, adding to a brace from Folarin Balogun.

Archer only made his Under-21 debut against the Czech Republic last week but has now opened his goalscoring account.

Sepp van den Berg and Cameron Archer excelled at Preston

These goals came from two players no longer attached to Preston but they still feel like great moments for North End fans.

We saw both players arrive at Preston as kids in need of senior football in order to develop.

Van den Berg spent 18 months at North End, becoming a firm fan favourite during his time at Deepdale.

Initially viewed as a makeweight in the deal that sent Ben Davies to Liverpool, Van den Berg was given a great platform to shine at North End.

It sadly seems like Van den Berg won’t be back for another season at Preston with Liverpool no doubt keen to loan him out elsewhere.

Preston do still have hope of bringing Archer back though, as outlined by Peter Ridsdale in recent days.

Archer only spent six months with Preston and may benefit from another year, just like Van den Berg.

Tonight’s goal just underlines Archer’s quality again though and other clubs may well fancy taking him on loan.

The ball is in Villa’s court but North End will be hoping to harness Archer’s goalscoring prowess once again next season.
