Preston wanted Sheyi Ojo last year and the winger has now been released by Premier League giants Liverpool.
Premier League clubs have been submitting their retained lists with their season over for a couple of weeks now.
Liverpool announced a number of departures, including that of cult hero Divock Origi.
There was another name on that retained list that has been on the Preston radar in recent times – Sheyi Ojo.
Preston wanted Sheyi Ojo last year
We reported back in August that Preston were chasing a loan deal for Ojo amid claims that Liverpool wanted to sell for £5million.
Preston didn’t pull off a deal though and Ojo instead joined Championship rivals Millwall.
Ojo, 24, only started 12 league games for Millwall and didn’t manage a goal whilst recording just two assists.
The winger was backed to be a star of the future when he emerged through the MK Dons ranks.
Liverpool pounced to sign him back in 2011 but Ojo only ever made eight Premier League appearances for the club.
After loan spells at Wigan Athletic, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Fulham, Reims, Rangers, Cardiff City and now Millwall, Liverpool have let Ojo go.
Ojo will be an appealing free agent to somebody but we can’t see Preston going back in for him this summer.
Ojo is a pure winger and Preston play with wing backs under Ryan Lowe, meaning there is simply no clear role for him at Deepdale.
A quiet season means Preston will feel that they didn’t really miss out on too much back in August and any chance of a deal being resurrected this summer has surely gone.
