Preston beat Fleetwood Town 3-2 in the Central League Cup this afternoon, with Matthew Olosunde managing to play an hour.

North End put out a youthful side featuring the likes of Joe Rodwell-Grant, Jacob Holland-Wilkinson and Ethan Walker.

Walker and Rodwell-Grant had Preston 2-0 up, but Fleetwood rallied and eventually managed to draw level with an injury-time goal.

That wasn’t the end though as Walker conjured a superb solo goal, giving Preston a 3-2 win.

Olosunde manages 60 minutes

Included in the Preston team was defender Olosunde, starting as a right back.

The summer signing from Rotherham United has failed to make a single competitive appearance for North End in a frustrating season.

Olosunde picked up an injury against St Johnstone in pre-season and hasn’t been in the senior team since.

There have been setbacks upon setbacks, with Olosunde seemingly two weeks away from a return at all times.

Olosunde managed to play an hour against Fleetwood before being substituted for Vaughn Green.

This is a major step in the right direction for Olosunde, who could really add a threat going forward from the wing-back position in Frankie McAvoy’s 3-4-1-2 setup.

Let’s hope there are no more issues for Olosunde and that Preston can get him fit and firing for the festive period.
