Preston were keen on Tayo Adaramola but have allegedly backed away from a loan move for the Crystal Palace left back.

North End went into the summer window needing at least one left wing back addition.

Robbie Brady has arrived on a free transfer from Bournemouth but Ryan Lowe has indicated that Greg Cunningham is more of a left-sided centre back than left wing back at this stage.

That means Preston simply have to bring in another left wing back – especially given Brady’s less-than-ideal injury history.

Preston were keen on Tayo Adaramola

Few names are being linked with joining North End right now but one recent link emerged with Crystal Palace talent Tayo Adaramola.

The Sun’s Alan Nixon reported earlier this month that Preston had joined the race to sign Adaramola.

Coventry City and Milton Keynes Dons were also believed to be keen with North End offering a threat.

That was just before Brady signed though, and Nixon has now taken to Twitter to claim that Preston ‘backed out’ of a move to sign Adaramola.

Nixon suggests that Preston were set to state their case to Adaramola about a loan move but the talks never took place.

Adaramola, 18, is considered to be one of Palace’s top young talents and a loan move looks likely for the new season.

The Irish youth international has pace and attacking ability but seemingly won’t be heading to Preston this summer.

We can only hope that Preston backed away from Adaramola to focus on another deal.

Leaving Brady as the only true left wing back and relying on others to fill in if needed – such s Cunningham, Ali McCann and Daniel Johnson – simply wouldn’t be good enough.

Brady is a quality player and an experienced pro but expecting him to play 35 to 40 Championship games this season may be a big ask.

There is of course a chance that Adaramola to Preston wasn’t feasible anymore in terms of the expectation of first-team football; Palace may not have wanted to send him somewhere with a risk of being on the bench or in and out of the team after Brady deal.

Still, Preston need another specialist left wing back to really make Lowe’s 3-5-2 tick and if it’s not Adaramola, it needs to be somebody else.
