Most of the conversation right now is about Preston signing players – but one has moved on today.

With Jayden Stockley snapped up last week, North End can now send Connor Simpson out on loan again.

Simpson, 18, has indeed moved on today, heading out to League Two side Carlisle United until the summer.

Joining a League Two side is a very promising move, and North End should certainly be encouraged by the deal.

The beanpole striker spent the first half of the season with Hyde United in the Northern Premier League, scoring six goals in 11 games.

With Preston desperate for attacking options over Christmas, Simpson was recalled but simply sat on the bench.

Loaning Simpson back out to Hyde appeared to be the initial plan, but that has very much changed.

Carlisle have just lost loanee Jerry Yates back to Rotherham, so needed to bring in a striker to replace him.

6ft 5in Simpson is that man, with the teenager heading to Brunton Park for what should be very valuable experience.

North End will hope to see Simpson make the step up before returning for pre-season, with the ex-Hartlepool talent very much considered as one for the future.
