Preston fans will be given a blast from the past this afternoon with David Moyes set to manage against Mike Jackson.

Today, West Ham host Burnley at the London Stadium in a must-win game for both teams.

West Ham need a win having been given a glimmer of hope when it comes to a top-four spot.

Burnley simply have to win if they’re to stay up, and this is their first game in a post-Sean Dyche world.

Dyche was surprisingly sacked on Friday, bringing an end to more than eight years in charge of the Clarets.

With no replacement lined up, it’s over to staff already at Burnley to take charge of today’s game at West Ham.

Burnley have confirmed that Under-23 coach Jackson will be taking charge alongside Academy Director Paul Jenkins, Under-23’s goalkeeping coach Connor King and club captain Ben Mee.

Jackson’s name will be familiar to Preston fans having actually played under West Ham boss Moyes at North End.

Snapped up by Preston in 1997, Jackson had emerged with Crewe Alexandra and Bury before joining North End for £125,000.

Jackson went on to play more than 250 league appearances for Preston, eventually leaving for Tranmere Rovers in 2004.

Fans of a certain age will remember a blood-drenched Jackson becoming the hero in 2000, scoring the winning goal against Wigan Athletic.

That goal helped Preston secure promotion to the second tier, with 7000 Preston fans celebrating in style.

Jackson ended up becoming a coach after his playing days, managing Shrewsbury Town and Tranmere Rovers with limited success.

Now given the chance to take charge of a Premier League game, it’s incredible that Jackson’s first game in charge of Burnley is up against Moyes.

The pair will surely share an embrace having enjoyed such a great time together at Preston, and North End fans will absolutely feel a sense of nostalgia seeing them together again.
