Preston's 'King Louis' makes emotional return after injury hell

Louis Moult is a fan favourite with many of the North End faithful after some key goals in the past.

He has also been popular due to his off the pitch activities often getting involved with the local community and charities.

After joining from Motherwell in 2018, Louis was in and out of the side failing to nail down a regular first team place. His chance looked to have come at the start of the 2019 season when he was given a start in the second game of the campaign against Wigan Athletic. He played very well, scored a goal in the 3-0 win and was kept in the side for the next game against Swansea City.

Unfortunately in that game he suffered a cruciate ligament injury and further setbacks have kept him out ever since.

However on Monday, Moult made a return to the squad at the same venue in which he suffered the initial injury, as Preston won for the first ever time at The Liberty Stadium.

It was great to see Moult return to a side which has been struggling for goals this season. ‘King Louis’ only has a matter of months remaining on his contract, so time is ticking if he is to win another deal.

Although he didn’t make an appearance for The Lilywhites in the 1-0 win, Frankie McAvoy has shown some faith in him, and perhaps he can go on to play a big part in the remaining six games for Preston North End.

As things stand, only Sean Maguire, Emil Riis and Jayden Stockley are contracted to be at the club next season. With Stockley’s future uncertain, a new striker will be on the shopping list for the new manager, but there still could be room for Louis Moult to fit in, if he can put his injury troubles behind him.

The 28-year-old wouldn’t be short of offers if he did leave Deepdale. Clubs north of the border would definitely be keen after his impressive spell at Motherwell, whilst fans of Wrexham would love to have him back too.
