Scottish media claim PNE only offered ‘lowball’ deal for Rangers winger

Preston North End did make moves to sign Scott Wright but a ‘lowball’ offer has been rejected by Rangers.

That is according to Football Scotland, who claim that PNE had been in talks to sign Rangers winger Wright for weeks.

However, PNE made a ‘lowball’ offer which wasn’t even close to what Rangers are seeking for the wide man.

Wright has been told that he can leave Rangers this summer and he isn’t in Michael Beale’s plans moving forward.

The Gers are happy to sell but PNE have come nowhere near to the asking price and a deal isn’t happening for now.

The report does claim that PNE still admire Wright but unless there is a sudden change of heart on the valuation from either side, this one won’t be happening.

Scott Wright could have helped solve big PNE problem

Going for Wright may not seem all that exciting on the face of it.

The 25-year-old has only managed eight goals and seven assists in 84 Rangers games, on top of seven goals and 11 assists in 79 Aberdeen outings.

When Josh Ginnelly – a player who barely had a kick in a PNE shirt – is racking up 12 goals in one season, North End fans will understandably have doubts.

Wright does have attributes that PNE desperately lack though – pace and the ability to dribble past defenders.

PNE ranked second-bottom in the Championship for total dribbles this past season, and fourth-bottom for successful dribbles.

North End simply have to bring in players who can get on the ball and take on defenders, bringing new dynamism to Ryan Lowe’s attack.

Wright has shown the ability to do just that, and we can absolutely understand why Lowe would want him at Deepdale.

We still hope that PNE can find an agreement here as Wright’s pace and 1v1 ability makes him the kind of player North End need to become more threatening in the final third, but much will depend on a tight budget at Deepdale.
