Preston North End fans are fearful about the future with so many players out of contract next summer – but the club are now making moves.

The Lilywhites have four key players out of contract next summer, and some believe that they will ultimately end up leaving.

Ben Davies, Alan Browne, Daniel Johnson and Ben Pearson can all leave for nothing in 2021, and Preston are fighting to keep them.

The Lancashire Evening Post report that North End have made offers to all four players, which mark ‘significant’ increases on their current deals.

Let’s take a look at Johnson, who will have been with Preston for six years when the January window rolls around.

A £50,000 signing from Aston Villa, Johnson has now racked up 226 appearances for North End, registering 45 goals and 26 assists.

The 28-year-old was expected to leave over the summer when Rangers came calling, but the LEP stated that Rangers only offered £1.5million in four instalments – a deal Preston unsurprisingly rejected.

Johnson hasn’t quite been as his best this season, registering just one goal, no assists and five key passes in his six Championship outings, whilst he also suffered a rare penalty spot failure against Reading.

He has though earned his first cap for Jamaica, and will likely be a man in demand if he does choose to move on.

Could Rangers come back in? Well, they signed a new midfielder in October as Bongani Zungu arrived, whilst Steven Gerrard also has Steven Davis, Ryan Jack, Glen Kamara, Scott Arfield and Joe Aribo at his disposal too.

It’s hard to see just where Johnson fits in at Rangers right now, but having shown a strong summer interest, they will surely be keeping tabs on his contract situation at Deepdale.
