Preston North End seemingly won’t be signing Scott Wright this summer and he could now end up in Saudi Arabia instead.
PNE had identified Wright as a potential summer signing with Rangers happy for him to move on.
The winger started just five league games for Rangers this summer and has been made available for transfer.
North End are seeking pace and dribbling ability this summer so Wright emerged as a possible signing.
Football Scotland reported that PNE did launch a ‘lowball offer’ to sign Wright but Rangers rejected the bid.
It was suggested that North End still admire Wright despite the failed attempt, but a summer move isn’t considered to be likely at this stage.
The 25-year-old has only managed eight goals and seven assists in 84 games for Rangers, leaving some to worry about his end product.
PNE seem to have moved on to other targets now and Wright could end up landing a money-spinning move.
Scott Wright could move to Saudi Arabia
Football Insider now claim that Al Ettifaq have made a concrete move to sign Wright.
Al Ettifaq have this week confirmed the appointment of Steven Gerrard as their new manager.
Wright was signed by Gerrard at Rangers and the pair could now reunite in the Middle East.
We had wondered whether PNE’s interest in Wright was in some way aided by Gerrard, who is close with North End boss Ryan Lowe.

Well, Gerrard certainly appears to be a big fan of Wright and a move to Saudi Arabia may now be on the cards.
This one seems a little bizarre though and a fake Twitter account did actually claim that Wright would be wanted by Gerrard.
Maybe this story has grown arms and legs from being a fake from the start, but the Daily Record claim that the interest is real and Wright could follow Gerrard to Saudi Arabia.
The likes of N’Golo Kante, Karim Benzema, Ruben Neves, Kalidou Koulibaly and Edouard Mendy have all made big moves to Saudi Arabia in recent weeks.
Wright doesn’t quite have the same reputation but Gerrard’s move to Al Ettifaq may yet open the door to a potential move.
PNE may still like Wright but there is next to no chance of North End fighting Saudi Arabian clubs for his signature given the money on offer there – if there even is an offer there in the first place, with this one seeming a little on the bizarre side.
