Preston take on Watford today and it looks like Brazilian attacker Joao Pedro will be missing the trip to Deepdale this afternoon.

North End are back in action today with the second half of their home double-header.

Tuesday’s 0-0 draw with Rotherham United was a major frustration having laid siege to the Millers’ goal.

It just wouldn’t go in for North End on the night and Ryan Lowe will be hoping for more luck in front of goal today.

Watford should be Preston’s biggest test so far though, with the Hornets harbouring dreams of an immediate Premier League return.

Two wins and two draws is a decent start for Rob Edwards but it looks like Watford have suffered a blow ahead of today’s game.

The Athletic report that Watford attacker Joao Pedro is now a huge doubt to face Preston today.

It’s stated that the Brazilian was expected to play against Preston having played through the pain barrier against Birmingham City in midweek.

However, Joao Pedro has instead undergone a scan on his ankle and looks unlikely to play in today’s game.

The timing of Joao Pedro’s potential absence is very interesting considering major interest from Newcastle United.

The Magpies have had not one but two bids rejected for Joao Pedro this week, with the latter totalling around £25million.

Watford are trying to stand firm but Joao Pedro hasn’t travelled to Deepdale and some will wonder whether he is no angling for that move to St James’ Park.

The Brazilian missing out would be a major blow for Watford, especially having already sold Emmanuel Dennis to Nottingham Forest this summer.

Ismaila Sarr is pushing to be fit though and could feature down the Watford right this afternoon.

North End will certainly hope that Joao Pedro’s injury and transfer situation proves to be a real distraction with three points up for grabs at Deepdale.
