Just a couple of days ago it was Lukas Nmecha who was linked with a big move. Now another former Preston North End striker is reportedly attracting the attention of the 1993 Champions League winners.

Marseille are said to be interested in Stephy Mavididi according to La Provence. Mavididi’s career has certainly taken off after an indifferent loan spell with Preston back in 2017.

He was very raw at just 19 when he joined as one of Alex Neil’s first signings. He failed to score in 11 appearances and dropped down to League One for another loan spell with Charlton Athletic.

His next move came out of the blue, when Juventus took him on a permanent deal in the summer of 2018. Initially brought in to play for their Under 23 side in Serie C he did go on to play for the first team.

In doing so he became the first Englishman to play for Juventus since David Platt in 1992.

Next for Stephy was a loan spell in France with Dijon. After a promising season in Ligue 1 Montpellier secured his services for a reported €6.3 million.

He’s impressed in France with Montpellier sitting in eight place in the league in contention for European places, scoring nine goals in 33 league outings this term. He’s caught the attention of Marseille who may look to snap up the 22-year-old in the summer.

It’s a surprise to see him doing so well but the Championship can be an unforgiving place for young players making their first steps in senior football.
