This promises to be a huge summer for Preston – possibly the busiest since 2012, when Graham Westley was signing a player every other day!
North End are facing a major rebuild this summer, with a host of players expected to leave Deepdale and a number required to come in.
Preston obviously don’t have the biggest budget around though, and that means Peter Ridsdale and new recruitment analyst James Beet may need to shop around the lower leagues for some gems.
Now, Hampshire Live claim that Ridsdale was spotted in attendance as Accrington Stanley drew 3-3 with Portsmouth last Tuesday night.
Ridsdale was treated to a six-goal thriller, and many will now be wondering just who he was watching given that North End don’t have any players out on loan at either side.
On the Accrington side, the easy suggestion is Dion Charles. The Preston-born attacker has been in stunning form this season, and is surely destined for a Championship move.
We’ve backed Charles for North End in the past, and if Preston do go for another striker this summer, Charles should be on the radar.
Pompey have a couple of impressive players such as Ronan Curtis and Marcus Harness, but they’re unlikely to come cheap as North End chase a long-term winger when Anthony Gordon’s loan spell ends.
One left-field shout could be defender Rasmus Nicolaisen, who is currently on loan at Pompey from FC Midtjylland.
The 24-year-old played as left-sided centre back in a three-man defence, which is a position Preston must strengthen this summer, and North End dipped into the Danish market last summer by signing Emil Riis from Randers.
Maybe Risdale was just taking in a local game, but it’s reasonable to think that one or more Preston targets were in action that night.
