According to The Mirror’s live transfer blog (13:50), Preston have asked Aston Villa about taking striker Keinan Davis on loan.

North End appear to be in the market for another striker, even after signing Jayden Stockley in January. We’ve all seen the Jordan Hugill rumours, but now a new name is in the mix.

It’s claimed that Preston have made their first move for Davis, contacting Villa about a loan deal. Hull City, Queens Park Rangers and Swansea City are also thought to have asked about a move.

Villa have just splashed the cash on Wesley Moraes, with the Brazilian set to be their main striker. With Jonathan Kodjia in the mix too, Davis is unlikely to feature in the Premier League.

A loan move may be ideal for the 21-year-old, who has two goals in three England Under-20 caps. His record for Villa is just three goals in 44 games, which may put some North End fans off.

Most of those appearances were as a substitute, with Davis making the step up from non-league football with Biggleswade Town.

Davis does appear to fit the bill for Alex Neil. He’s big and strong at 6ft 2in tall, but he has enough pace to run the channels, much like Hugill did.

When so many clubs are linked with one player, it does smack of an agent getting a player’s name out. Davis does tick boxes for North End though, and a loan bid for the youngster certainly makes some sense.
