According to Football Insider, Preston are in the race to sign Cheltenham Town defender Will Boyle this summer.
It’s suggested that Sheffield Wednesday are also in for Boyle, as are Charlton Athletic, Rotherham United and Fleetwood Town.
Boyle has been a key man for Cheltenham since joining from Huddersfield in January 2017, and was named in the EFL League Two Team of the Year this week.
Michael Duff’s side have won promotion, and whilst Boyle has missed a host of games with injury, his influence has been recognised with his inclusion in the Team of the Year.
Boyle has become known as a real goal threat, bagging seven goals this season, and he is now attracting major interest ahead of the summer window.
The 25-year-old is big and strong at 6ft 3in tall, and he could fit with North End given that he is a left-sided defender, something Preston need after selling Ben Davies.
Boyle doesn’t quite have the same pace or ball-playing ability as Davies though, and given that he turns 26 in September, some may worry that he has limited potential.
Born in Garforth, Boyle may fancy a move back up north, but it would be a surprise if he was one of Preston’s top targets this summer.
