Preston could do with an experienced centre back this summer, so it’s some surprise that a youngster is continually linked.
North End have seen Jordan Storey and Ben Davies show potential, but something else is needed. Paul Huntington and Tom Clarke struggled this past season, and reinforcements are needed.
A wily veteran with Championship experience would be ideal, but none have been linked. Instead, it’s another League Two youngster being touted for a move to Deepdale.
The Scottish Sun note that North End are in the race for Oldham’s George Edmundson, who has been linked a number of times since January. However, a move to North End is seeming unlikely now.

That’s because the report claims that Rangers are ramping up their interest in the centre back. In fact, it’s stated that Edmundson was given a tour of the Rangers training ground last week ahead of a possible move.

The 21-year-old centre back would cost around £450,000, and Rangers seemingly want to groom him for the future. The lure of playing for such a huge club, and for Steven Gerrard, may be too hard to reject.
Edmundson has been a regular for the Latics this season, playing a staggering 54 games this season. He’s big and strong, but has little experience beyond League Two, so seems like a Storey-type signing.
That’s not what North End need, and going for more experience has to be the priority as Edmundson appears to be nearing a move to Ibrox.
