Preston North End fans still hold great admiration for Joe Garner – and may now be surprised by his next move.

The Daily Mail report that Garner is in talks to sign for East Bengal in India, where he would be joining up with Robbie Fowler.

Garner was left out of the Wigan squad to face Bristol Rovers on Tuesday, and is now preparing for a shock move to the Indian Super League.

Garner has been captaining the Wigan side and has scored seven times in 14 games this season, meaning he is a huge loss for the Latics.

Fowler has a number of ex-Football League players in his squad, including Danny Fox, Anthony Pilkington, Jacques Maghoma and Aaron Amadi-Holloway.

Garner now looks set to join them, as well as goalkeeping coach Bobby Mimms – who turned out for Preston in his playing carer.

Garner, 32, joined North End in January 2013, and became a hero in a stunning two-year spell in which he smashed 51 goals in 89 games.

He was the heartbeat of the North End side, firing Preston to two successive play-off campaigns before leaving for Rangers in 2016.

Garner’s long-term affinity for Preston made him a Deepdale favourite, even before his unbelievable goal against Rotherham in 2014, and he is now preparing for a shock move to join Fowler in India in what could be a final money-spinning move of his career.
