Preston have spoken to free agent Matthew Olosunde about making a move to Deepdale, according to the Lancashire Evening Post.
It’s claimed that Olosunde is one of two right backs in talks with North End, with no final decision just yet.
Olosunde has decided to leave Rotherham United on a free transfer, meaning Preston wouldn’t have to pay a fee to sign the 23-year-old.
How did Olosunde perform last season?
Olosunde won 2.9 tackles per game, eerily similar to Darnell Fisher at 3 tackles per 90 minutes, whilst he also averaged 2 interceptions per 90 – exactly the number Fisher recorded at Preston in the first half of last season.
The American would be making the same move as Fisher, from Rotherham to Preston, and contributed with three assists last season.
His best performance of the season arguably came at Everton in the FA Cup back in January, leading to boss Paul Warne branding him ‘a thorn in their side’.
Preston target Olosunde once compared to Dani Alves
Many players have lofty comparisons thrown at them that they can’t quite live up to, and Olosunde is no different.
Olosunde’s former coach John Kerr suggested in 2016 that Olosunde is in the Dani Alves mould as an athletic, attack-minded right back.
Olosunde clearly hasn’t reached Alves’ levels, but there is clearly talent with the American and he could solve Preston’s problematic right back issue.
