Preston have already signed three defenders this summer, but Fleetwood Town’s James Hill is now being linked with a move to Deepdale.
That’s according to Football League World, who claim that Hill is wanted at North End.
However, Preston would face major competition for the defender with Premier League clubs keen.
Leicester City, Southampton and Brentford are all interested in Hill, as are Championship side Millwall.
We understand that Hill was a prime target for North End earlier in the transfer window.
Yet with Sepp van den Berg back after re-joining on loan from Liverpool, Hill was no longer a priority for Preston.
North End likely still admire Hill, but unless there is a very quick change in the plans at Preston, we’re not expecting a move this month.
Hill, 19, is the son of former Preston defender Matt Hill, and could follow in his father’s footsteps with a move to Deepdale down the line.
With 35 first-team appearances last season, Hill is now a key member of the first-team picture at Fleetwood and is showing huge potential.
Whereas Matt was a left back and won Preston’s Player of the Year award in 2007, James is a right-sided centre back and possesses an enormous throw-in.
With Van den Berg and Jordan Storey battling to start as the right-sided centre back this season, Hill just isn’t needed right now – but when Van den Berg goes back to Liverpool, keep a very close eye on Hill.
