Preston have secured their new manager after handing Frankie McAvoy the reins on a full-time basis.

McAvoy did about as well as could be expected during his interim stint in charge, and has been rewarded with the job permanently.

So what of the managers who were being linked with the job before McAvoy’s deal?

Uwe Rosler was one of the names in the frame, as the Daily Mail claimed that he was on North End’s radar to replace Alex Neil.

This did make some sense; Preston looked at Rosler in the summer of 2017 having impressed in charge of Fleetwood Town, but the job went to Neil.

Rosler is now with Fortuna Dusseldorf, but having missed out on promotion to the Bundesliga, he looks set to leave.

Express in Germany report that Rosler will be let go when his contract expires this summer, with Fortuna already looking to appoint Miroslav Klose as his replacement.

The German World Cup legend has quit his role as Bayern Munich’s first-team assistant coach and looks set to head into management himself.

That will leave Rosler without a job, and whilst the Preston door is closed now, maybe it will open for him again one day.
