Preston landed two signings on deadline day, but did miss out on striker Michael Obafemi as the Southampton man signed for Swansea City.
Winger Josh Murphy and midfielder Ali McCann joined North End in the final hours of deadline day, making the day a success after previously looking like a failure.
There were some moves that fell through over the course of the day though, with a move for Southampton striker Obafemi one of them.
Hampshire Live reported on deadline day that Preston had shown an interest in signing Obafemi, and we understand a bid from North End was accepted.
Blackburn Rovers were also keen, but Obafemi ended up choosing a move to South Wales with Swansea City.
The Swans are truly North End’s nemesis in the transfer market. They’ve beaten Preston to numerous signings in recent times, including Jake Bidwell, Rhian Brewster, Jamal Lowe and Kyle Joseph.
In the case of Obafemi, Swansea have struck a deal worth £1.5million rising to £2million, handing him a three-year deal in South Wales.

The 21-year-old made 39 first-team appearances for Southampton, notching five goals in all competitions, whilst he is also a Republic of Ireland international – something Preston tend to like.
Diminutive at 5ft 7in, Obafemi wouldn’t have been a classic centre forward, but you could absolutely imagine him buzzing around Emil Riis in Preston’s attack.
Sadly for North End, it just wasn’t meant to be as Obafemi heads to Swansea instead of Preston.
