Preston North End are looking to snap up free agent midfielder Lewis Wing as Daniel Johnson looks set to leave this summer.
That is according The Mirror’s Darren Witcoop, who reports that PNE are keen to finally bring Wing to Deepdale.
You may wonder why we say ‘finally’ there; it’s because PNE have been interested in Wing for years now.
The Northern Echo reported way, way back in 2018 that North End wanted to land Wing from Middlesbrough.
Why Chelsea FINALLY Turned A Corner.
Wing was also on PNE’s wishlist in a very busy January 2021 window according to Lancs Live.
North End have never managed to secure Wing’s signature but this summer may present the ideal opportunity.

Wing is a free agent this summer having decided to leave Wycombe Wanderers at the end of his contract.
We’re not expecting PNE to spend much this summer so Wing’s availability as a free agent seems to fit the recruitment approach.
The 27-year-old enjoyed a strong season in League One, racking up nine goals and five assists for Wycombe.
PNE must add some quality in midfield, particularly in an attacking sense with Daniel Johnson now expected to leave.
Wing isn’t a like-for-like talent but does provide attacking output that North End really need.

PNE aren’t alone in the race for Wing though.
Football League World noted in March that Blackburn Rovers are interested alongside Coventry City and Sunderland among others.
Witcoop’s claims today also include interest from Wing’s former club Rotherham United and Gareth Ainsworth’s Queens Park Rangers.
Ainsworth managed Wing at Wycombe and called him a ‘terrific’ player back in February.
Reuniting with Ainsworth may appeal to Wing but PNE will be hoping that a return to the north of England will prove attractive to the midfielder.
