We believe that Preston are likely to sign Liam Lindsay on a permanent basis, but he’s far from the only defender being linked.

In fact, he isn’t even the only tall, left-footed centre back being linked with a move to Deepdale.

Football Insider claimed that North End are looking at Cheltenham Town defender Will Boyle following their promotion to League One.

The former Huddersfield Town man has been a goal threat thanks to his aerial ability, and had allegedly put himself on North End’s radar.

Yorkshire Live now claim that Sheffield Wednesday have been monitoring Boyle closely ahead of a potential deal, though a mystery Championship club are keen too – possibly Preston.

Boyle has only one year left on his Cheltenham contract, and the report suggests that he could be sold for just £200,000.

That certainly fits into North End’s budget, but it looks like Wednesday’s interest is stronger than Preston’s as things stand.

Boyle doesn’t really have the mobility to as a left-sided defender in a back three, so if Lindsay does sign, we can’t see Boyle coming in too.
