Everton striker Tom Cannon is now being targeted by the England setup having impressed on loan at Preston North End.
The Athletic report that Cannon has now been approached by England with a view to switching his national allegiance.
Cannon was born in Merseyside but has been playing for the Republic of Ireland at international level.
Cannon qualifies for Ireland through his grandmother and has featured at Under-19, Under-20 and Under-21 levels.
The 20-year-old has now put himself on England’s radar though having excelled on loan at North End.
Cannon scored eight times in 20 Championship games for North End, including in a goal against rivals Blackpool.
The hope is that Cannon will return to PNE for a full season but that will now be up to Everton.
Sean Dyche will want to take a close look at Cannon over pre-season before making any transfer decision.
Cannon now faces an international decision though and could leave Ireland very disappointed.
Ireland have lost two huge stars in recent years with Jack Grealish and Declan Rice swapping their allegiance to play for England.
Cannon now has the chance to follow suit with England hoping to prise him away.

Cannon has already been included in a senior training camp for the Republic of Ireland with a cap surely in Stephen Kenny’s plans.
