Sadly, Preston’s success this season is bound to attract attention from other clubs.

This weekend alone, we’ve had the bizarre situation surrounding Alex Neil and Stoke City. North End managed to keep Neil despite the Potters’ interest, but the rumours are going to keep coming.

One player attracting major interest is defender Ben Davies, and we can’t really argue with. The 24-year-old has come up through the club’s youth setup and now features as one of Neil’s key men.

Davies has become one of the top centre backs in the Championship, and it’s no great surprise that he is a wanted man by Premier League clubs.

Everton, Newcastle United and Brighton and Hove Albion have all been linked, but The Express claim that Wolves are now pushing to the front of the queue.

It’s claimed that Nuno Espirito Santo’s side want to launch a £10million move in January, with Wolves desperate for another centre back in light of Willy Boly’s major knee injury.

Davies would certainly fit as a left-sided centre back in Nuno’s three-man back line. He’s quick, reads the game well and is superb at playing out from the back, all attributes which will make him attractive to Premier League clubs.

Hopefully, Preston won’t sell in January. Davies has a contract that runs until 2021, meaning that come January, he will be inside the final 18 months of his contract.

Preston will hopefully still be around the top six by then, but selling Davies would send out completely the wrong message. If we miss out on promotion and he goes next summer, he would probably have the blessing of many fans; just don’t sell him mid-season.
