It’s fair to say the signing of Andre Green really hasn’t worked out.
North End swooped to take the Aston Villa winger on loan for the season back in August, signing him as a replacement for Callum Robinson. Both left wingers, both right footed, both from the Aston Villa youth academy; the parallels between Green and Robinson were clear.
Yet whilst Robinson showed real promise on loan at North End to win a permanent move, the same hasn’t happened for Green. We’re now well into December, and he still hasn’t started a Championship game.
He’s made just four league appearances, all off the bench. His last appearance was against Leeds in October, meaning he hasn’t played for nearly two months. With six appearances in total, the move has been a huge disappointment.

Unsurprisingly, that has now led to rumours about Green’s future. The LEP reported earlier this morning that there will be a review of Green’s situation in January, meaning a return to Villa is a possibility.
MORE PRESTON STORIES
Now, Football Insider claim Villa want to recall Green, most likely to send him elsewhere. The Premier League side are allegedly keen to strike an agreement with North End for Green to head back to Villa Park, seemingly disappointed with his playing time at Deepdale.
That’s no doubt a great frustration for Villa, but Alex Neil has to do what is best for him. If Green isn’t doing enough to get into the Preston side, that has to be the priority – not Villa’s happiness.
It seems likely that Green’s time with Preston is coming to an early end, and it wouldn’t be a huge surprise to see Preston pursue another left winger in January to replace him.
