Preston have secured their first January signing and the first addition under Ryan Lowe by bringing Aston Villa striker Cameron Archer in on loan.
Lowe has great links to Villa thanks to his friendship with Steven Gerrard, and that relationship has been utilised already.
Archer is one of Villa’s brightest young talents and will now be looking to shine during his brief spell at Deepdale.
The 20-year-old has racked up four goals in two EFL Cup games this season and now gets a crack at Championship football.
Archer has been given the number 21 shirt at Preston and will be available to play against West Bromwich Albion on Wednesday night.
Archer has taken to Instagram to celebrate his loan move, and Rhys Williams just had to respond.
Liverpool defender Williams was born in Preston and is a boyhood North End fan, so took a keen interest in Archer’s move.
Williams replied to Archer’s Instagram post by simply saying ‘score some please’, begging him to find the net for Preston.
Other Preston fans no doubt feel the same way as Williams, with Archer having a great platform to shine at North End.
Homegrown Villa players like Callum Robinson and Daniel Johnson have thrived at Preston in years gone by, with Archer almost certainly hoping to match their success.
