Preston North End rallied to claim a dramatic point away at Sheffield United on Tuesday night, with Emil Riis bagging a last-gasp equaliser.
PNE made the trip to Bramall Lane in search of points having drawn at Bristol City in the first part of this away double-header.
Sheffield United took an early lead, capitalising on slack defending to score through Morgan Gibbs-White.
PNE did get themselves level though, with Daniel Johnson calmly scoring from a Ryan Ledson pass.
North End were by far the better side for much of the game, but then had to withstand heavy Blades pressure.
In the end, the pressure told as Sander Berge put United in front late on.
That came just moments after Emil Riis had seen a golden chance saved by Robin Olsen.
It looked like Preston would be made to pay for that miss – but there was another twist in the tale.
Riis makes amends
PNE carved out one last chance.
A long ball was sent into the Sheffield United box, with Jordan Storey turning the ball across goal.
Riis took one touch and made no mistake this time, smashing the ball past Olsen.
The travelling North End fans went absolutely bonkers, with PNE rescuing a draw at the death.
Ledson reacts to Riis goal
Riis came in for criticism after failing to score his one-on-one, but he kept his cool to score the leveller.
Teammate Ryan Ledson lauded the Dane after the full-time whistle, taking to Instagram to call Riis ‘big dog’.
It’s clear that PNE players believe in Riis, and hopefully he will start to believe in himself a little more.
With more composure in front of goal, Riis can become an absolute star. The ingredients are there, it all just needs to come together.
