Ryan Lowe has been at Preston North End for a month now, and he has confirmed his coaching team that will be alongside him for the foreseeable.
He brought in respected coach Mike Marsh on day one and has been impressed with former North End player Paul Gallagher as well.
Mike Pollitt will remain as a goalkeeper coach, but as confirmed on the club’s official website, two long standing members of the backroom will be departing.
‘First team coaches Mike Marsh and Paul Gallagher, goalkeeper coach Mike Pollitt and analysts Charlie Ager and Daniel Atkinson will form Ryan’s coaching team.
The above means that both Steve Thompson and Jack Cudworth have left their roles with the club, and they leave with our thanks and best wishes.’
Steve Thompson joined the club shortly after their promotion back to the Championship in 2015. He had been with Simon Grayson at Blackpool, Huddersfield Town, and Leeds United, so it was no surprise when they linked up once again.
He remained part of Alex Neil’s and Frankie McAvoy’s team even when Simon Grayson took up other jobs, and always seemed to be well respected and liked by the players.
If Grayson does find himself at another club I expect him to be making a call to Thompson.
Jack Cudworth came through the youth ranks as a player at the club , but never made a first team appearance. After spells with Macclesfield Town, and Bangor City he returned to the club to coach the youth team goalkeepers.
First team goalkeeper coaches came and went over the years with Dean Kiely and Alan Kelly taking the role at times. Cudworth would assist and step in with for any absences.
He would often do the pre-match warm ups, but with Mike Pollitt having settled into the role, it seems there isn’t a need for Cudworth at this time, or at least that’s the decision Lowe has made anyway.
