Preston North End have made just the one summer signing, but it could be a hugely important one.
Alex Neil needed a new striker, but North End were seemingly struggling to find somebody who could improve the side and fit into the budget.
Seemingly out of nowhere, Preston announced the capture of Danish Under-21 international Emil Riis, paying £1.2million to sign him from Randers.

Formerly of Derby County, Riis is far from a household name, but he ticks many of the boxes for North End.
He is young at just 22, he’s big and physical at 6ft 2in tall, and he scored goals last season having found the net 11 times in all competitions.
MORE PRESTON STORIES
Riis made his debut as a substitute against Brentford, and he seems to have already made an impression on fellow Preston striker Seani Maguire.

Maguire has told the LEP that he thinks Riis has looked ‘really quick’ in training and against Brentford, and now wants to see him in a race with Tom Barkhuizen.
Barkhuizen is certainly the fastest player in the Preston squad, and we have seen many Championship defenders struggle to handle his pace in recent years.
If Riis being strong and mobile is ideal for Neil’s style of play, and whilst he may not be quite as rapid as Barkhuizen, Maguire’s comments are certainly exciting.
