Well, here we are again; Preston seemingly have a habit of letting youth players go, and then seeing them pitch up in the Championship.
Last summer, North End angered fans by releasing Tyrhys Dolan, with the winger immediately joining Blackburn Rovers on a free transfer.
Dolan impressed in our youth team, but was still let go. He has gone on to have a fine first season, notching three goals and two assists in 36 Championship games.
Dolan has been joined at Rovers by midfielder Joe Nolan, who was also released by Preston last summer. He hasn’t made the jump to first-team level yet, but is shining in Premier League 2.
Middlesbrough swooped to sign Tyler Williams after he left North End, and Swansea City have now joined in.
The Swans have today confirmed the signing of defender Lincoln McFayden, landing him on a free transfer.
North End released left back McFayden alongside Dolan, Nolan and Williams last summer, and he has now joined Swansea’s Under-23’s as they seemingly see potential in him.
Preston’s lack of an Under-23 setup is costing them these talents, and we could now see McFayden emerge with the promotion-chasing Swans in the near future.
