Frankie McAvoy was often labelled as ‘a nice guy’ and there was no doubting that, but unfortunately that doesn’t always get you very far in football.
You got the feeling the Scot was happy to be here and couldn’t believe he had been given the chance to manage the club. Could he see himself going much further? Probably not. He’d more than likely reached his peak in football.
He also didn’t strike you as someone who could be inspiring and give rousing team talks in the dressing room to rally the team. A manager needs to give the whole team a boost and they need to believe in them.
Ryan Lowe has had success with both Bury and Plymouth Argyle. He did a short video with Sky Sports shortly into his Plymouth reign a couple of years ago that you can see on YouTube.
A particular highlight was the team talk below which shows he getting through to the players the opportunity they have at the club.
Lowe urged his players to get thousands of fans inside and to get the place rocking.
Lowe made it clear that his side would not lose many home games because they didn’t want to let fans down.
Not only that, but Lowe wanted his flair players to get on the ball and make things happen – just what Preston fans have been wanting.
Will he be able to get Deepdale rocking? We’re some way off at the moment but a fresh start will help.
