Preston North End winger Tom Barkhuizen has issued a passionate message about his time at the club – and his former manager Alex Neil.

Barkhuizen returned to the Preston lineup earlier this month, starting against Derby County after a lengthy absence from COVID-19 complications.

The speedy forward will be in contention to start against Liverpool tonight, though he has recently made the headlines for his comments rather than his play.

Barkhuizen highlighted to the press last week that he was bored in this Preston team, that he might not stay beyond the end of his contract and preferred to play in a 4-4-2 rather than a 5-2-1-2.

Those comments are pretty astonishing, showing unbelievable honesty that many fans ultimately agree with completely.

Barkhuizen has now taken to Twitter to clarify some of his comments, particularly noting that there was no fallout between himself, Alex Neil, Alan Browne or Daniel Johnson.

In fact, Barkhuizen thanked Neil for giving him such a great Preston career, stating that their relationship remains strong now.

With Neil likely to land a new job in the near future, it would be no surprise to see him take Barkhuizen with him.

Barkhuizen may reach 200 games for Preston tonight, and vowed to make the club proud again after losing to Blackpool.
