Preston are expected to be in the market for a left wing back this month – and Wigan Athletic’s Tom Pearce is believed to be a target.
Josh Earl is currently featuring at left wing back in Ryan Lowe’s 3-5-2 system, but his form has been a little up and down this season.
With Greg Cunningham more suited to playing as a left-sided centre back under Lowe, Preston need another left wing back option.
The Sun’s Alan Nixon now reports that Preston are interested in signing Wigan ace Pearce to fill that role.
Wigan are allegedly trying to tie Pearce down to a new contract given that his current deal ends this summer.
The Latics are even already eyeing a replacement, with Cambridge United’s Jack Iredale wanted.
Preston may now see Pearce as a bargain signing this month whilst bolstering one of the key positions in Lowe’s system.
Pearce, 23, racked up five assists for Wigan last season but has only made seven league appearances this season.
An injury suffered last season appears to have set Pearce back a little, and the likes of James McClean and Tendayi Darikwa have been used on the left instead.
Formerly of Leeds United, Pearce appears to have some potential but his dip this season may leave some North End fans worried.
