Graham Burke is heading for the Preston exit – and he certainly seems at home with Shamrock Rovers.
North End signed Burke from Rovers in 2018, landing him as a budget playmaking option for Alex Neil despite him wanting Bersant Celina and Kasey Palmer.
Burke failed to make much of an impact with North End, playing just 15 games and scoring only two goals before being loaned off to Gillingham in 2019.
Then, it was back to Ireland with Shamrock Rovers, and he has now signed a pre-contract agreement to join Rovers on a free transfer when his Preston deal ends this summer.
In truth, it’s easy to forget that Burke is technically still a Preston player; he’s spent more time away from Deepdale than he has in the first-team squad.
On Tuesday night though, Burke hit the headlines with a stunning goal to set Rovers on their way to a 2-0 win over Derry City.
Burke rode a couple of challenges inside his own half, then lobbed the goalkeeper from the halfway line.
It’s a shame we never saw this kind of quality at Preston, but at least Burke is enjoying himself back in Ireland and fits in better than he ever did with North End.
