West Bromwich Albion have suffered a huge blow just over 24 hours away from facing Preston North End as Daryl Dike will be out until March.
North End travel to The Hawthorns to face West Brom on Wednesday night, and it usually isn’t a happy hunting ground for Preston.
West Brom’s last home defeat to Preston came way back in October 1973. The last 11 meetings at The Hawthorns have ended in West Brom wins.
Few will be giving Preston a chance on Wednesday night, but North End have been handed something of a boost.
The Athletic report that West Brom striker Daryl Dike will now be out for the Preston game and even until after the March international break.
Dike picked up a hamstring injury against Peterborough United on Saturday afternoon and now faces around two months out.
West Brom are considering signing another striker to replace Dike, but it seems unlikely they will get anybody in before facing North End.
The Baggies just splashed £7million on Dike but Preston will avoid a meeting with the American hitman.
A key signing for Valerian Ismael having worked together at Barnsley, Dike would have been a major threat to the North End back line.
Callum Robinson may now be called upon to feature in the West Brom attack, potentially facing off against former club North End.
