Preston North End added another new face on Monday, finalising a deal for Connor Wickham – and Wilfried Zaha has had his say.
Wickham first arrived at PNE in August, joining on trial ahead of the home game with Peterborough United.
Wickham watched from the stands as North End won 1-0, and has continued training with PNE for three weeks.
Last week, Wickham played in a 1-1 reserve clash against Walsall. Sadly, Wickham missed a penalty in that game. PNE weren’t put off.
No, North End have given Wickham a four-month deal. His contract runs from September 13th to January 13th, giving him time to get up to speed and hopefully score some goals.
This deal officially brings Wickham’s time at Crystal Palace to an end. The 28-year-old’s contract did expire this summer, although Palace never actually confirmed his exit.
Wickham now won’t be heading back to Selhurst Park, and Eagles star Zaha is sad to see him go.
Zaha took to Instagram to react to Wickham’s move, offering eight words.
‘All the best my boy, will miss ya’ wrote Zaha, having spent six years alongside Wickham at Palace.
Some may worry that Wickham won’t be up to Championship action after so many injury problems, but having the backing of Zaha – one of the top wingers in the Premier League – is a strong reference.
