Preston fans desperately want to see Daniel Iversen return to North End next season.

The Danish goalkeeper joined on loan from Leicester City in January, becoming Preston’s first-choice stopper following Declan Rudd’s injury.

Iversen was so good that he put himself in contention for Preston’s Player of the Year award despite only spending half the season in Lancashire.

Iversen is now heading back to Leicester though, and he has become somewhat of a dream signing for fans ahead of next season.

The Sun’s Alan Nixon now claims that North End want to re-sign Iversen on loan, or possibly even on a permanent basis if possible.

We knew Preston fancied another loan deal for Iversen, but the mention of a permanent deal will absolutely excite fans.

The problem is that any return could take some time. Leicester’s main two goalkeepers – Kasper Schmeichel and Danny Ward – are both playing at the European Championships this summer.

Leicester won’t want to risk letting Iversen go and then seeing one of their other goalkeepers pick up an injury this summer.

Preston will need to be patient over Iversen, but there now appears to be real hope that he will be back in a North End shirt next season – or possibly even beyond that.
