Preston will now have to face Ben Davies this season as the defender nears a move from Liverpool to Sheffield United.
North End sold Davies to Liverpool in January, knowing that he would be out of contract in just a matter of months.
The deal Preston landed wasn’t perfect; £1.2million with a 20% sell-on clause and Sepp van den Berg on loan for 18 months, and North End have really missed Davies.
Davies has yet to make a senior competitive appearance for Liverpool, and he now looks to be heading back to Championship already.
The Sheffield Star report that Sheffield United have agreed a deal to take Davies on loan for the season.
That will see the Blades pay £1million to take Davies until next summer, whilst Liverpool will also receive money if Davies wins promotion with Slavisa Jokanovic’s side.

It will hurt Preston fans to see Davies playing for another Championship club, and his first return to Preston will come on the 26th of December.
Preston fans may also not like the finances here; Preston only secured £1.2million for Davies, yet Liverpool are raking in almost that figure just to send Davies out on loan.
