Preston have already tied up a permanent deal for Greg Cunningham, but another left back is being linked.
That seems a little odd. Cunningham is here for the next two years, whilst Andrew Hughes and Josh Earl can both play there, with youngster Lewis Coulton also in the mix.
Hughes may be seen as more of a left-sided centre back this year whilst Earl’s long-term future is a topic for another day, but signing another pure left back seems like it maybe isn’t the biggest priority.
Still, Football Insider claim that Preston are in the race to sign Hull City left back Callum Elder this summer.
North End are allegedly fighting with Cardiff City, Derby County and Huddersfield Town for Elder despite Hull winning promotion.
The 26-year-old Australian racked up 10 assists in a superb campaign, winning a place in the League One Team of the Year.
With just one year left on his contract, Elder could be a little cheaper than you’d imagine, but a move to North End seemingly won’t be happening.
Lancs Live’s George Hodgson claims Preston not only aren’t in for Elder, but aren’t even targeting a left back at all as things stand.
Elder is clearly a talented player, but don’t expect to see him turning out in a North End shirt any time soon.
